Across conflict affected regions of the world, the dangers of war do not end with the sessation of hostilities. Hidden beneath the surface, on land, in cities, and even underwater, lie explosive remnants that continue to threaten lives, livelihoods, and recovery. Mine action today has emerged as a critical pillar of humanitarian response and postconlict reconstruction. In an era defined by hybrid warfare, the scale, complexity, and unpredictability of these threats have increased significantly. At its core, humanitarian mine action is about restoring safety and enabling communities to rebuild with confidence.

Mine action is a range of activities which is designed to reduce the social, economic and environmental impact of landmines and unexloded ordinance which are left behind after the conflicts are over. In its present form, modern form, it came up sometime towards the late 1980s. Till 1988 it was in the domain of military and thereafter it developed as a separate field into the civilian organizations also. In fact it was in 1988 when two major international NGO's were formed and it also was the time when the humanitarian aspect of theproblems created by infestation of mines and unexloded ordinance came into being.
